Our Mission

This isn’t just a coffee and yarn shop; it’s a community on the move—fostering fellowship through craft, coffee, and a whole lot of personality.

Our mobile knit café will debut with pop-ups in Chattanooga (and beyond in the future), creating a welcoming space where fiber artists and craft enthusiasts can connect, create, and enjoy a cup of coffee. And guess what, we will be family friendly! Because having little ones shouldn't stop you from being able to enjoy a coffee, or knit, or both.

We can't wait to hang out and make you coffee!

Coffee Pop-up Schedule

We are still on the hunt for the perfect vintage SUV to turn into a coffee truck. Creating something as unique as this comes with expected setbacks, but we have so much faith that the perfect vehicle will appear at the perfect time. I will be documenting the entire process of the coffee truck conversion on our socials! So, if you'd like to tag along on this journey follow us @purlwisecoffee on tiktok and instagram.

OUR YARN GUIDE

Whether you're a brand new knitter or you've finished a few projects, understanding the differences between yarn weights is confusing so we've broken it down for you.

What is Yarn Weight?

Yarn weight is a crucial factor in knitting because it directly affects the fabric's texture, drape, and finished size. Different yarn weights, such as lace, fingering, worsted, and bulky, are going to be more suitable than others for specific patterns. Choosing the correct yarn weight ensures that the garment or item has the desired appearance and fit, and it also influences the knitting needle size and the amount of yarn needed. Choosing the right one for your project helps ensure that you'll achieve the right tension and prevents issues like uneven stitches or project sizing errors. Overall, understanding yarn weight is essential for any knitting project. It ensures that you don't have to go through the hassle of panic buying more yarn half way through your project, when you realize you didn't order enough. But most importantly, it will also reassure you that your project will turn out the way you intended.

How important is Yarn Length?

I remember buying yarn for my first project (a sweater) and only thinking I needed one ball of yarn...boy was I wrong. Yarn length is an important aspect of knitting because it determines how much material is available for your project. Knowing the length of yarn in a particular skein helps you estimate how many skeins you'll need to complete a project, and every project/yarn is different! For one sweater you may need four skeins and another may need fourteen skeins all because the length, and weight, are different between different types of yarn. Adequate yarn length ensures you have enough material to finish your project without running out midway and also prevents you from buying so much yarn that you now have a stash to cloth a small village. Who are we kidding, you can never have too much yarn. But on a real note, proper attention to yarn length both in the skein you are purchasing and the pattern you choose is crucial to your knitting journey!

The Purlwise Coffee Story

My husband and I moved to Chattanooga in 2023 for his medical residency training, just as we were starting our journey together—newly married and expecting our first child. After giving birth, I experienced postpartum depression and anxiety, which drastically shifted my priorities. What I was studying in grad school at the time no longer felt meaningful, and I couldn't justify sending my child to daycare given the intense anxiety I was experiencing postpartum. As a result, I made the difficult decision to end my career and become a stay-at-home mom. I loved every moment with my son, but living in a new state while navigating marriage, motherhood, and my own identity crisis was incredibly challenging. Slowly, the pressure and isolation began to take a toll on me and 2024 ended up being both the best and worst year of my life.

In January 2025, I decided to pick up a new hobby—knitting. While it may sound trivial to some, this hobby completely changed me. It provided an outlet, and a way to reconnect with myself again. However, being introverted with social anxiety and allowing myself to knit alone wasn’t enough—I craved community and wanted to create a space where women like me, whether recently relocated, or first-time mothers experiencing an identity crisis, could come together to relax, connect, or simply work on a craft.

That’s how Purlwise Coffee was born.

So in July 2025, I bought a $500 espresso machine and started teaching myself everything I could about espresso. I used my husband as a taste tester for every latte I made, making sure that I was never compromising on the quality of the coffee while also acquiring the best preservative free ingredients to use in my future drink recipes. I used to make fun of him for being a coffee snob only to realize that now I've turned into one myself.

After having my son I learned that my true purpose in life was being a mom, but becoming a mom made me realize life is too short to not do something you love with people you care about. I can't wait for you to experience Purlwise Coffee for yourself and share in the love and passion that inspired its creation.
